The Dingle and Slea Head Guided Day Tour

Your personal guide and chauffeur on this day tour will show you incredibly beautiful vistas over both fertile and rugged land, and across the Atlantic Ocean. You'll discover rich Irish history and experience the delicate taste of mouth-watering flavors, too. You'll see exactly where, and indeed why, several block-buster movies were filmed here. Prepare to be enlightened, enchanted and entertained, and bring your camera and be your own film director, too.

Our Pictures-in-Words Route

In luxury and comfort, we slip quietly out of your hotel grounds on our way to Tralee where we'll visit the fascinating and award winning Kerry County Museum. Step back in time and truly 'feel' how life was here in bygone days.

With the Tralee Bay at our side for miles, our tour brings us up and over the high and almost forbidding Connor Pass - an ancient route over the Slieve Mish Mountains that brings us onto the Dingle Peninsula. We're at 1300 ft above sea level, so a walkabout to absorb the magnificent views of Tralee Bay on one side, and the equally stunning views of Dingle and Dingle Bay on the other, are simply exhilarating. Songs have been written about the 'Fishing Boats of Dingle' - well now you can see them. Dingle Harbour has a very special resident - Fungi, a dolphin and is a much-loved daily visitor. The fresh and clean air here generates quite an appetite, so lunch is available here.

Leaving Dingle, we follow the Slea Head Drive route passing Ventry Bay, where Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman filmed Far and Away, and onto Dunbeg, an Iron Age promontory fort set on a steep cliff. Hugging the coastline, the Atlantic Ocean stretches out before us; its shimmering deep blue waters and numerous islands and bays are quite magnificent. This is Ryan's Daughter country and where Trevor Howard and Sarah Miles became welcome residents.

Onto Ballyferriter, a thriving and busy village nestled in a stunning green valley and then we soon come to another archaeological treasure called, Gallarus Oratory, a unique, centuries-old, early Christian church. Its shape and construction will astound you.

Now, we seek refreshments back in Dingle in the form of Murphy's homemade ice cream. Remember, your taste buds need a holiday too! On leaving memorable Dingle, we shortly come to the 3-mile long Inch Strand. It's a photographers' dream with its rolling and often thundering Atlantic waves.

We finally head for Castlemaine, Milltown and Killarney, but we take a last glimpse from Aghadoe heights across to the Lakes of Killarney with the grandeur of the MacGillycuddy Reeks forming a commanding backdrop. These views act as a wonderful finale to this Dingle and Slea head tour as we head back. Your chauffeur will ensure you will be at your hotel in time for you to prepare for dinner where you may enjoy stimulating conversation about your day. Bon appetite!
